landing gear position indicator

A system available on all aircraft with retractable landing gear to indicate the position of the landing gear. The most common indication is a set of three green lights to indicate all three wheels are down and locked and three red lights to show that they are up and locked. In some aircraft, a red light means that wheel are in transit and neither locked down nor up. There may be other visual and/or aural warnings to indicate an unsafe landing gear position to the pilot.
