Metalworking Lubricant

any of a group of lubricants used in the rolling, pressing, drawing, smith forging, press forging, and stamping of ferrous and nonferrous metals in order to facilitate deformation and improve the quality of the surface produced. The group also includes the lubricants used in the hardening of steel and the compositions used in the coating of molds. Metalworking lubricants are usually mixtures of animal fats, vegetable fats, petroleum oils, and soaps based on higher fatty acids. They also contain antiscuff additives, antioxidants, friction-reducing additives (graphite, molybdenum disulfide, talc), and emulsifiers and other surfactants.
