Obruchev Oasis

 

an Antarctic coastal oasis located at 66°35′ S lat. and 99°45′ E long, between the Denman and Scott outlet glaciers in the eastern part of the Queen Mary Coast of Eastern Antarctica. The Obruchev Oasis is a chain of hillocks 250 to 300 m high, 30 km long, and free from ice cover. It was discovered by the Australian antarctic expedition of 1911–14. In 1956 a Soviet expedition investigated it in greater detail and charted it. The oasis is named in honor of Vladimir Afanas’evich Obruchev.
