Breezes or winds caused by the differential heating or cooling of land and water surfaces near the coastal areas. The land heats and cools more quickly than the sea. During the night, the air over the land becomes colder and, hence, denser than that over the adjoining water. There is thus a high pressure over the land and a low pressure over the sea, and this sets off a breeze flowing from the land to the sea. This wind flow is called a land breeze. During the day, the wind flows in the reverse direction, as the sea is colder than the land. This flow of the wind from the sea to the land is called a sea breeze.
