AMALPHITAN CODE. The name given to a collection of sea-laws, complied aboutthe end of the eleventh century, by the people of Amalphi. It consists ofthe laws on maritime subjects which were, or had been, in force in countriesbordering on the Mediterranean; and, on account of its being collected intoone regular system, it was for a long time received as authority in thosecountries. 1 Azun.
