founded in 1930. As of 1973 the institute included state recordkeeping and archival studies departments, correspondence and evening divisions, and a graduate training program. There were 15 subdepartments and a library of approximately 550, 000 volumes. Over 3, 000 students were enrolled for the 1972–73 academic year; the faculty of 150 included 18 professors and doctors of sciences and more than 80 docents and candidates of sciences. The institute may confer doctoral and candidate’s degrees. The institute has published Trudy (Transactions) since 1939. Approximately 7, 000 specialists were trained at the institute between 1930 and 1973.
