metabolic biopsy

metabolic biopsy

A popular term for the form of functional imaging (e.g., MR-spectroscopy, a diagnostic modality that measures the pathologic changes in neurochemicals over time, or fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET)) used to assess metabolic changes at the tissue level that suggest a particular disease, as if a biopsy had been performed.
