Messoiakha
a river in Yamal-Nenets National Okrug, Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR. Length, 446 km; basin area, 26,000 sq km. The Messoiakha meanders along the northeastern West Siberian Plain. It empties into Taz Bay of the Kara Sea, where it divides into branches. It is fed by snow and rain. High water occurs from June to August. The principal left tributaries are the Niangus’-iakha, Niadaiakha, Muduiiakha, and Indik”iakha. The Messoiakha is a spawning ground for fish (broad whitefish, whitefish, least cisco). There are deposits of gas in the river basin (a gas pipeline has been laid from the river to Noril’sk).
