(Adoxa moschatellind), a small perennial herbaceous plant of the family Caprifoliaceae. (The plant is often classified as the single species of the family Adoxaceae.) It ranges in height from 5 to 15 cm. The small, generally greenish flowers are gathered into a terminal head. The rhizome is short and whitish. The radical leaves are biternate, and the stem leaves are ternate. The flowers bloom in the spring; they have a faint musk odor. Moschatel grows in temperate and cold regions of the northern hemisphere, in mountains up to the alpine zone, as far north as the arctic regions. In the USSR the plant is found in the European part, the Caucasus, Siberia, the Far East, and Middle Asia.
