muscle energy manipulation

muscle energy manipulation

Osteopathy
Any of a number of osteopathic techniques in which the patient actively moves against resistance to a muscle group held in position by the examiner. The intent of muscle energy manipulation is to expand the muscle’s range of motion and correct muscle dysfunction, which may be related to trauma or injury. The counterforce applied varies in intensity depending on whether the resistance is isometric (practitioner equally resists patient’s force), isotonic (patient overcomes applied resistance) or isolytic (applied resistance overcomes patient’s force).
