Lamar wrote under modernist influences in the beginning of his career—for example, the verse collection Arena (1921). Social protest and revolutionary struggle appeared in his poetry of the 1920’s and 1930’s—the narrative poem Peaceful and Un-peaceful Years (1928), for example. After the victory of the popular democratic revolution of 1944, the vivid presentation of socialist reforms was central in such collections as Dawn on the Motherland (1951), Years of Building (1951), and The Wisdom of Years (1959). Lamar is the author of the novel From Sunrise to Sunset and the collected essays Melted Avalanche (1970). He was awarded the Dimitrov Prize in 1950 and 1952.
