Location:Extends nearly 400 river miles along the Ohio River.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, hiking trails, auto tour route.
Activities:Boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge protects land and water habitats used by 40 species of freshwater mussels, 2 of which are endangered. Most of the refuge's acreage is located in West Virginia; Pennsylvania and Kentucky each have 2 islands.
Habitats: 3,300 acres of farm fields and old-growth timber on 22 Ohio River islands and three mainland tracts.
Access: Open for day use. One islands has bridge access; all others are accessible only by boat.
Wild life: Prothonotary and cerulean warblers, great blue herons, osprey ring-necked ducks, bald eagles, deer, rabbit, squirrel, and the endangered fanshell and pink mucket mussel.
