[‚äs·tē·ō‚lep·ə′fȯr·mēz] (paleontology) A primitive order of fusiform lobefin fishes, subclass Crossopterygii, generally characterized by rhombic bony scales, two dorsal fins placed well back on the body, and a well-ossified head covered with large dermal plating bones.
