Size: 17 acres.
Established: Authorized on December 28, 1973; dedicated on September 27, 1974. Formerly known as Columbia Island, this park was renamed in honor ofLady Bird Johnson and her campaign to beautify Washington D.C.
Location:In Lady Bird Johnson Park, a Potomac River island in Washington, DC.
Facilities:Picnic area, rest rooms (é), groceries, restaurant/snacks, marina.
Activities:Boating, fishing, bicycling.
Special Features:A living memorial to the 36th President, the park overlooks the Potomac River vista of the Capital. The design features 500 white pines and inscriptions on Texas granite. Easy access to the 18-mile Mount Vernon Trail makes the grove a popular staging area for bicyclists and in-line skaters.
