Special Features:Lake Sakakawea is one of the three largest manmade reservoirs in theUS, 178 miles long and with a surface area of about 368,000 acres. Thepark is the terminus of the North Country National Scenic Trail which,when completed, will stretch 3,200 miles from upstate New York to LakeSakakawea State Park, where it joins the route of the Lewis and ClarkNational Historic Trail. The park and lake are named in honor ofSakakawea, the Shoshone woman who accompanied Lewis and Clark and theCorps of Discovery on their journey to find a waterway to the PacificOcean.
