Synonym(s): lymphoedema. [lymph + G. oidēma, a swelling]lymphoedema Persistent swelling of the tissues as a result of inadequate drainage from blockage or absence of the LYMPH channels. Absence may be congenital or the result of cancer surgery. Obstruction may be by cancer cells or by filarial parasitic worms.
