Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant
a power plant on the Ob’ River near the city of Novosibirsk (now within the city limits). Rated power, 400 megawatts (MW). Average annual electric power production, 1,687,000,000 kilowatt-hours.
The hydroengineering complex of the Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant includes a concrete spillway dam 33 m high and 198.5 m long (on top); an earth dam 4,382 m long; the powerhouse (283.6 m long), which contains seven hydroelectric power units with a rated power of 57.2 MW each; and a three-chamber, single-lift lock. The dam creates the Novosibirsk Reservoir. Construction of the power plant was started in 1950, the first unit was put into operation in 1957, and the plant began operating at its full rated power in 1959.
