Murphree, Eger V.

(1898–1962) chemical engineer, petroleum executive; born in Bayonne, N.J. He was affiliated with Standard Oil Development Co. (1934–62), becoming its president (1947). He was a leader in the development of synthetic toluene, hydrocarbon synthesis, and fluid catalytic cracking, hydroforming, and coking. He became involved in the U.S. guided missile program (1956).
