Established: 1939.
Location:West-central North Dakota, 25 miles north of Dickinson.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, picnic areas, hiking trails, fishing pier (é), boat ramp, historic features.
Activities:Boating, canoeing, fishing, ice fishing, hiking.
Special Features:Archeologicial findings show Lake Ilo has been continously inhabited for more than 11,000 years. On-site displays showcase artifacts with interpretive exhibits.
Habitats: 4,034 acres of native prairie, planted grasslands, wetlands. The uplands are characterized by gently sloping hills and terraces with creeks and an occasional slough.
Access: Year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Canada geese, mallards, pintails, blue-winged teal, shovelers, plovers, and gadwall. Also present are deer, antelope, pheasants, and sharp-tail grouse.
