a river in Arkhangel’sk Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Kuloi (White Sea basin). The Laka River is 157 km long and drains a basin area of 1,390 sq km. It originates on the White Sea-Kuloi plateau and is fed by snow and rain. The Laka freezes over in November and thaws at the beginning of May.
