Nielsen, Kai

 

Born Nov. 26, 1882, in Svendborg; died Nov. 2, 1924, in Copenhagen. Danish sculptor and ceramist.

Nielsen studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (1902–06; according to other sources, 1912). His work was influenced by A. Rodin, A. Maillol, and B. Thorvaldsen. His works include a portrait of T. Bindesbøll (granite, 1909–10; State Art Museum, Copenhagen), 17 sculpture groups on the Blågårds Plads in Copenhagen (1913–16), and The Creation of the World and The Creation of Man—reliefs for a student dormitory in Copenhagen (stone, 1923–24).
