a family of beetles. The body is elongated (5–20 mm long) and covered with hairs. There are about 550 species, which are found primarily in the tropics; five species are encountered in the USSR. The majority of Lagriidae feed on organic remains; some species are herbivorous. The common species Lagria hirta is 7–10 mm long and black; its elytra are yellow-red and covered with stiff erect yellow hairs.
