In north-central PA, west of Wilkes-Barre; organized Apr 13, 1795 from Northumberland County. Name Origin: For Lycoming Creek, which runs through it and had for many years been the dividing line between settled and disputed Indian lands. From Delaware Indian word probably meaning 'sandy or gravel-bed creek.'
