Miriti Palm

the name of several species of palms of the genus Mauritia. The genus has six species, which are distributed in tropical America. The best-known species are Mauritia vinifera and M. flexuosa. Their leaves yield construction materials and textile fiber; wine is made from the juice of the flowers. The pithy trunk of M. flexuosa is used in foods as sago.
