Novikov, Anatolii Semenovich

 

Born Oct. 1, 1926, in Moscow. Soviet sculptor. Member of the CPSU since 1971.

Novikov graduated from the Moscow Institute of Applied and Decorative Art in 1952. From 1952 to 1954 he was the head artist at the Gzhel’ Ceramics Plant. Among his freestanding works are L. N. Tolstoy (plaster of pans, 1959) and 1941: Send-off to the Front (plaster of paris, 1962). Novikov was one of the sculptors of the memorial ensemble commemorating the heroes of the battle of Stalingrad on Mamaev Kurgan in Volgograd (1963–67; Lenin Prize, 1970).
