Murafa
Murafa
a river in Vinnitsa Oblast, Ukrainian SSR; a left tributary of the Dnestr. It is 163 km long and drains an area of 2,410 sq km. It originates in the Podol’e upland. It is fed by mixed sources, predominantly by snow. High water occurs in spring; there are flash floods in summer, fall, and, less often, winter. The mean flow rate 9 km from the river’s mouth is 8.5 cu m per sec. There are five small reservoirs on the Murafa. Fish breeding is important on the middle course of the river. The Belianskaia Hydroelectric Power Plant is located near the mouth of the Murafa.
