Limnophilous Animals

animals that dwell in standing waters (lakes and ponds). They may live on the bottom (limnobenthos), swim in deep waters (limnoplankton), or move freely throughout the water (limnonekton). Limnophilous animals are contrasted with rheophile animals, which live in flowing waters (rivers and streams). Limnophilous animals differ from rheophile animals in that they require less dissolved oxygen in the water, their bodies are less flattened, and they lack organs for attaching to the substrate.
