Neumann lines[′nȯi‚män ‚līnz] (metallurgy) Mechanical deformation twins seen as straight, serrated narrow bands parallel to preferred planes in the crystals of an etched metal which has been strained, usually by sudden impact; most often observed along the 112 planes of body-centered-cubic ferrite. Also known as Neumann bands. |
