Neuimin, Grigorii Nikolaevich

 

Born Dec. 22, 1885 (Jan. 3, 1886), in Tbilisi; died Dec. 17, 1946, in Leningrad. Soviet astronomer specializing in astrophotography.

Neuimin graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1910 and remained there to prepare for a scientific career. From 1912 to 1941 (with an interruption from 1922 to 1925) he worked at the Simeiz Astronomical Observatory (now the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR); from 1944 to 1946 he was director of the Pulkovo Observatory. Neuimin discovered a large number of asteroids and six new comets (the Neuimin comets). He thoroughly investigated the orbit and motion of the comet discovered by him in 1916. Neuimin was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
