Ladoga Lake Cisco
(Coregonus albula ladogensis), a fish of the family Salmonidae; a large form of the European cisco. The body reaches a length of 46 cm and a weight of 1.5 kg. The fish lives in Lake Ladoga. It becomes sexually mature in the third year of life. Spawning occurs in November and December; approximately 3,000 eggs are deposited. Ladoga lake ciscoes eat plankton and small fish (smelt). They have been successfully acclimatized in a number of lakes, including some in the Ural region, where they mature at two years. Ladoga lake ciscoes are commercially valuable.
