AATF
AATF
Apoptosis Antagonizing Transcription Factor. A 523-amino acid nuclear phospoprotein which interacts with ZIPK, a nuclear serine/threonine-specific protein kinase, the overexpression of which induces apoptotic cell death. AATF is encoded by a gene that maps to 17q11.2-q12, the expression of which is downregulated by TGF-beta in intestinal cells. AATF is expressed in cortical neurones and neural PC12 cells and is neuroprotective. Overexpression of AATF protects against amyloid beta-peptide-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells.Normal expression Brain, heart, thymus, kidney, placenta, skeletal muscle, colon
Abnormal expression Overexpressed in aggressive osteosarcomas
