Nicomachus of Gerasa

(also Nichomachus). Lived circa 100 A.D. Ancient Greek mathematician and philosopher.

Nicomachus of Gerasa was the author of the work Introductio arithmetica (Introduction to Arithmetic), which was well known in ancient Greece. This work, a survey of the principles of number theory, deals with proportions and with prime, composite, relatively prime, and other numbers. Some of Nicomachus’ works on music have also been preserved.
