Location:12 miles south of Alamogordo via US 54, then east 4 miles on Alamogordo Road.
Facilities:48 developed campsites (18 with electric hookups), restrooms (é),showers, picnic area (é), group shelter, trails, historic structures, desert garden,visitor center, interpretive exhibits.
Activities:Camping, hiking, wildlife viewing, education programs.
Special Features:Park features historic exhibits and a fully restored 19th century ranchhouse, once the headquarters of Oliver Milton Lee (1865-1941), acolorful figure in New Mexico's history. Park is also the trailhead forthe Dog Canyon National Recreational Trail in the adjacent LincolnNational Forest (see entry in section on national forests). This difficult, 6-mile trail has splendid views of the surrounding desert and White Sands National Monument.
