Maryville,
city (1990 pop. 19,208), seat of Blount co., E Tenn.; settled around Fort Craig (built 1785), inc. as a town 1830, as a city 1927. With its twin city, Alcoa, it is an important center for the production of aluminum and aluminum products. Lumber, automotive parts, and ski boats are also produced, and corn and tobacco are grown. He moved (c.1806) with his family to Tennessee and lived much of his youth with the Cherokee, by whom he was adopted.
