Mungun-Taiga

 

(Mongun-Taiga), a massif in the southwestern Tuva ASSR. Its maximum elevation is 3,976 m. The peaks are covered with glaciers whose total area measures approximately 44 sq km. The massif is composed of crystalline schists and of sandstones, broken at the center by intrusions of granites. Mountain tundras and meadows are found on the northern slopes, and alpine steppes and rocky tundras on the treeless southern slopes. Larch forests grow in parts of the valleys.
