La Ceppède, Jean de

(zhäN də lä sĕpĕd`), 1550–1622, French poet and magistrate. In 1608 he was appointed president of the Court of the Exchequer of Provence. After centuries of oblivion, he is again receiving recognition for his Théorèmes spirituels (c.1621), a two-volume collection of sacred sonnets notable for their anticipatory use of symbolism.
