labyrinthine anesthesia test lab·y·rin·thine an·es·the·si·a test (lab'i-rin'thēn an-es-thē'zē-ă test) Local anesthetic is instilled into the tympanic cavity of the affected ear and allowed to absorb through the round window into the inner ear. If temporary resolution or amelioration of vertigo or postural instability occurs, the test ear can be assumed to be the major source of the problems. This test can also identify residual labyrinthine function not detectable by caloric testing. |
