Nichols, Ernest F. (Fox)

(1869–1924) physicist; born in Leavenworth, Kans. He was affiliated with Colgate (1892–98), Dartmouth (1898–1903; president, 1909–16), Yale (1916–20), and Nela Research Laboratories, Cleveland (1921–24). He made major advances in studies of infrared radiation (1890s), and quantitatively measured the pressure of light (1901).
