Laborde, Alden James

(1915– ) oil executive; born in Vinton, La. He spent his career in the oil industry. He was founder and president of Ocean Drilling & Exploration Co. (1953–74; CEO and chairman 1974–77), where he invented the mobile offshore oil drilling rig (1954). He was later an industry consultant (1977–85) and CEO and chairman of Gulf Island Fabrication Co. (1985).
