Min’kovskii, Aleksandr Zakhar’evich

 

Born Dec. 12 (25), 1900, in the village of Snezhna, Vinnitsa Oblast. Soviet conductor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1960).

In 1930, Min’kovskii completed his training in the department of conducting at the N. V. Lysenko Musical Drama Institute. From 1934 to 1941 he was the artistic director and principal conductor of the chorus of the Ukrainian Radio Committee. Since 1946 he has held similar positions with the State Bandurists’ Chorus of the Ukrainian SSR. Since 1951, Min’kovskii has taught at the Kiev Conservatory, where he was made chairman of the subdepartment of conducting in 1960 and a professor in 1965. A recipient of the T. G. Shevchenko State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in 1969, Min’kovskii has also been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
