Otechestven Front

(Fatherland Front), a Bulgarian daily newspaper, organ of the National Council of the Fatherland Front of Bulgaria. From 1952 to 1965 it was also the organ of the Presidium of the National Assembly.

Otechestven front was first issued on Dec. 31, 1942, as an underground publication. Initially the organ of the Sofia Regional Committee of the Fatherland Front, it was subsequently the organ of the National Committee of the Fatherland Front. After the overthrow of the monarchical-fascist dictatorship on Sept. 9, 1944, and the establishment of popular democratic power, Otechestven front became one of the most popular newspapers among Bulgarian workers. Published in Sofia, it has a circulation of 250,000 (1975).
