Otdatochnye Knigi

 

documents of the second half of the 17th century in which government agents registered the return (otdacha) of runaway peasants to their owners. They consisted of entries establishing such matters as the reason for flight and the legal basis for the search, in addition to day-by-day notes. The documents are a valuable source for the history of peasantry and serfdom in Russia.
