[′bēm ‚swich·iŋ] (electronics) Method of obtaining more accurately the bearing or elevation of an object by comparing the signals received when the beam is in directions differing slightly in bearing or elevation; when these signals are equal, the object lies midway between the beam axes. Also known as lobe switching.
