A number value (“weight”) assigned to a specimen seen by a consultant in histopathology, which reflects the case’s macroscopic and microscopic complexity. The work weighting is coded as 0, 1, 3, 5 and 10; 10 units per hour—40 units per 4.0 hour session (3.75 of work, 0.25 of break) or programmed activity—are considered appropriate.Work weight data can be used when costing departmental activities and can be calculated in billing purchasers of histopathology services.
