Lukashevka Settlement

a group of ancient settlements near the village of Lukashevka in Orgeev Raion, Moldavian SSR.

Investigations conducted between 1950 and 1961 revealed the following: (1) a settlement of the Hallstatt culture of the seventh and sixth centuries B.C.; (2) a settlement of the Gatae of the second and first centuries B.C., with a burial ground containing cremations in urns and various objects, including iron, bronze, and gold ornaments, a bronze idol, iron tools, Greek amphorae, and modeled vessels; (3) a settlement of the Cherniakhov culture; and (4) a Slavic settlement of the late ninth to the middle of the 12th century A.D. The Slavic settlement comprised the remains of an ancient town surrounded by an earthen bank and a ditch; dwellings, wells, and numerous tools, weapons, and ornaments were also found. After the destruction of the town in the mid 12th century, life in the unfortified part of the settlement continued for a long time.
