Moore, Samuel

 

Born circa 1830; died in 1912. British jurist.

Moore was a member of the First International and a friend of K. Marx and F. Engels. He owned a small factory in Manchester. After going bankrupt, Moore turned to the study of law. He translated into English most of the first volume of Marx’ Das Kapital, published in 1887, and Marx and Engels’ Communist Manifesto, which appeared in 1888. Both translations were edited by Engels.
