Kvirila

 

a river in the Georgian SSR; left tributary of the Rioni River. Length, 140 km; basin area, 3,630 sq km. It rises in the Racha Range. Up to the point where it is joined by the Dzirula, it flows through a gorge; in its lower course it flows through a broad valley. The river is fed primarily by rain. The average annual water discharge at the city of Zestafoni, 42 km from the mouth, is 61 m3/sec; at the mouth, about 90 m3/sec. The river is used for rafting timber. The cities of Sachkhere, Chiatura, and Zestafoni are on the Kvirila; the Chiatura manganic ore deposit is in its basin.
