Kvasov, Aleksei Vasil’evich

Born 1718; died Feb. 9 (20), 1772, in St. Petersburg. Russian architect.

Kvasov headed the architectural section of the Commission on the Stone Construction of St. Petersburg and Moscow; he directed the creation of the overall plan for St. Petersburg (1763–69) and developed the project report for reconstruction of the city’s admiralty section and the projects for the squares where bridges of city highways crossed the Fontanka River. Kvasov worked on the layout of Kazan (1766), Tveri (now Kalinin; 1767), Astrakhan (1768), Kharkov (1768), and other cities. His work had great significance for the development of city planning in Russia.
