Kuçovë Strike of 1936
Kuçovë Strike of 1936
a general strike in Albania of the workers of the Kuçovë oil fields, which belonged to the Italian Society for the Development of Albanian Petroleum. The strike began on February 11 in protest against the dismissal of 60 revolutionary workers and their banishment from Kuçovë. Its main cause was the dissatisfaction of the popular masses with the despotic regime of King Zog I (A. Zogu) and the brutal exploitation of the masses by the Italian capitalists. The Kuçovë strike was led by the workers’ society Puna, in which Communists played the leading role. On February 13 the Kuçovë strike was suppressed by the government.
