Orhan Seyfi Orhon

Born 1890 in Istanbul; died there Aug. 21, 1972. Turkish writer and journalist.

Orhan Seyfi Orhon graduated from the faculty of law of the University of Istanbul in 1914. He worked for a time in government service, later becoming a teacher and journalist. He was twice elected a deputy to the Turkish parliament (1946, 1965).

Orhan Seyfi Orhon began to publish during World War I. He became one of the leading hece poets (advocates of syllabic meter), writing chiefly intimate, lyric poetry. His collections include Storm and Snow (1919), Voices of the Soul (1922), and Caravan (1964). Orhan Seyfi Orhon also wrote the novel The Man-child (1941), as well as satirical short stories and articles and notes on literature and art.
